Choosing the right pillow is important. The best pillow is the one that gives you the perfect combination of comfort and support. There are two key questions you should ask yourself to determine which pillow would be right for you:
Q. What level of support do I need: Soft, medium or firm?
If you are not sure about this, consider which position you normally sleep in;
- If you sleep on your back, a medium-firm pillow is best.
- If you sleep on your side, choose a firm style that supports the neck.
- If you sleep on your stomach, a soft pillow will provide cushioning and comfort.
- If you suffer with neck problems, a memory foam pillow is perfect as they mould to the shape of the head and neck, relieving pressure on the area.
Q. What type of filling do you prefer, natural or synthetic?
Natural Pillows:
- Down is the softest and finest pillow filling and offers soft-medium support.
- Adding feather to the pillow adds more support.
Synthetic Pillows:
- The majority of pillows available from SlumberSlumber.com are filled with polyester clusters or microfibre that can be easily re-plumped and moulds to the shape of your head.
- Memory Foam and Latex are also a popular filling, offering support & comfort while you sleep.
When choosing a filling you may also need to consider:
- Allergies
- Washability & Care
- Breathability
Allergies:
Allergies are widespread and affect approximately one in four of the population in the UK at some time in their lives. One of the main causes of allergies including asthma, eczema and rhinitis, is the dust mite. If you are troubled with allergic reactions to these microscopic creatures, you need to consider the following:
- If you are allergic to dust mites, choose a pillow that can be washed easily at 60 degrees centigrade, the temperature that kills dust mites.
- Non-allergenic or hypo-allergenic products are manufactured from raw materials that will not cause an allergic reaction.
Washability & Care:
The second key buying decision to consider is how often do you want to wash your pillow? The following tips should help you to decide which filling will most suit your wash and care requirements:
Synthetic
- Most synthetic pillows can be washed in a large capacity washing machine. We advise that they should be washed occasionally in order to refresh the filling as it accumulates moisture and dust.
- There are a wide range of synthetic pillows on the market and their quality varies enormously. SlumberSlumber.com offers a range of synthetic pillows which are of the highest quality as we aim to ensure that the wash performance of the products we sell is second to none.
- Always follow the care label that is sewn into any bedding product.
Natural
- Natural pillows should be washed with extreme care. Specialist cleaning is highly recommended.
- Always follow the care label that is sewn into any bedding product.
Breathability:
Pillows containing natural fillings are more breathable than those which contain synthetic fillings as natural fillings possess the ability to absorb and disperse excess moisture.

sweet dreams Written by mrs louise reed
the wool filled pillow gave me a heavenly well supported comfortable sleep. no need to count sheep with this one. it kept me cool even on a hot night. in the morning no need to plump as it keeps its shape. better than expensive duck and goose down that flattens and softens to lack support for neck and back pain.

Very comfortable Written by L Watson
I have tried all sorts of pillows to obtain a comfortable night's sleep ... and at last I have found it! This is a pillow that provides sufficient neck support without being as hard as a brick, and does not get squashed to nothing after a few night's use. Just wonderful - I would well reccomend this pillow!
